Perhaps it’s only fitting that a potentially new interest rate regime comes with a new head of the Federal Reserve. President Yellen oversaw her last meeting In January where policymakers saw slightly faster growth in the existing data while also projecting stonger growth in the next 12-24 months. Read more

Weekly Indicators: coincident rough patch continues edition

January data this week was sparse: existing home sales were negative, but the Index of Leading Indicators was strongly positive. My usual note: I look at the high frequency weekly indicators because while they can be very noisy, they provide a good Now-cast of the economy, and will telegraph the maintenance or change in the economy well before monthly or quarterly data is available.
